Participation in GIZ-APIIC Activities:

Mr. Vishnu Gupta, brother of Mr. Mukesh Gupta attended the Training Programme on “Green Productivity” conduced at IDA Nacharam on 20th February 2007.


Mr. Mukesh Gupta mentioned that there was an increase in awareness level in IP Nacharam. M/s S.G.R Chemicals have implemented dry scrubber and dust collectors in the industries to mitigate air pollution from their industry. Besides, they have ordered wet scrubber for boilers and would be implemented in 15 days. The ash collected in cyclone is sent for manufacture of bricks.

Participation in GIZ-APIIC Activities:
Mr. P. Madan Mohan from the company has attended an Awareness Programme at IP Mallapur.



Mr. B. Sudhakar Raju mentioned that the stagnation of water in rainy season has reduced drastically after storm water drains were constructed.

Mr. Sudhakar mentioned that they have implemented solvent recovery system and that they are regularly assessing energy losses from the boilers to the reactor to keep check on the losses.

Participation in GIZ-APIIC Activities:
Mr. Md. Anees Farouqi participated in the visit-cum-exposure to Germany organised by GTZ during August 9 to 23,, 2009. He is closely associated with various GIZ-APIIC activities.

Mr. Md. Anees Farouqi mentioned that GTZ presence at APIIC has helped in awareness generation in APIIC. He told that he had learnt a lot during Germany visit and this has helped in practically understanding the concept of eco-industrial parks. He suggested that there has been improvement in environmental aspects in the industrial parks especially in Nacharam and Mallapur. Improvements in storm water drainage and plantation could be seen. All new SEZs such as those at Buchinahalli and Naidupeta would be considered for site master planning following the similar trend as with APSEZ Visakhapatnam for which site master planning was taken up by GTZ.

He suggested that there was need for training for stakeholders on environmental aspects. He also mentioned that financial problems for operation of CETP at Nacharam and Mallapur should be resolved by taking into consideration all stakeholders.

Participation in GTZ-APIIC Activities:
Mr. M. Janardhan Rao, has attended training programme conducted by IGIAT under GTZ-APIIC cooperation and also participated in a few stakeholders meetings.



Mr. M. Janardhan Rao mentioned that it is good to have environmental infrastructure including storm water drainage, CETPs, plantation etc., but financing for environmental projects is a key concern as the stakeholders looks for profit and are not aware of the environmental issues.

He said that GTZ has taken up good training programs and that because of GTZ, there is an improvement in environmental awareness at APIIC. He said that a lot of improvement has been there since inception of EMP Cell at APIIC, however there still a need for strengthening the Cell. He was also appreciative of the ecoprofit efforts.

Participation in GTZ-APIIC Activities: He is involved in environmental activities in IP Nacharam and IP Mallapur.


Mr. Vinod Kumar mentioned that GTZ-APIIC collaboration is very good and could help attain the ultimate aim of “total greenery”. He said that the cooperation has helped in initiating implementing storm water drainage, effluent pipelines, CETP and plantation in IP Nacharam and IP Mallapur. He said that laying of effluent pipeline was difficult due to terrain conditions and existing electric poles, however the laying of pipeline is almost over with only 10% work remaining. He was of firm view that the industrial estates should appear as “parks” and not as “estates”.

He said that there was a lot of improvement in the last few years in terms of reduction in dumping of waste, improvement in environmental awareness and tree plantation. He said that data collection on chemical zone has also been initiated to cover all chemical industries in IP Nacharam and IP Mallapur. He informed that the Environmental Engineer now posted at Maoula Ali zone now attends the monthly IALA meetings and the issues concerning environment are regularly discussed in the meetings.

He suggested that there should be a regular training of various stakeholders and visits to successful eco-industrial parks would be very beneficial. He indicated that the topics should also include aspects such as rainwater harvesting structures, groundwater recharge structures and solar street lamps.

Participation in GTZ-APIIC Activities: M/s Ahlada Pharma Pvt. Ltd. actively participated in the Eco-club meetings and energy audit conducted by NPC as a part of the cooperation activity from GTZ.

Mr. Ram Mohan Reddy, the Director of M/s Ahlada Pharma Pvt. Ltd. is also the treasurer of IALA (Industrial Association of Local Authority), Mallapur. He said that GTZ support is required for developing eco-industrial parks.

Mr. Ram Mohan Reddy informed that as advised by NPC as a part of the training programmes and consultancy visits to their industry, they have constructed two tanks to divert the refrigeration loads into the tank alternatively to facilitate manufacturing of ice at -150C.
He also mentioned that they have tested for automatic mixing of chemicals at their unit, which they are planning to implement soon. He mentioned that they are planning to apply for ISO 9000 this year and hence have started documenting their work regularly. He suggested that there should be further continuation of training programmes. These training programs should consider the latest trends and technologies which will benefit environment at large.

He said that the APIIC-GTZ cooperation is doing a very good job but the awareness level at industrial parks needs to be further raised. He also raised the issue of CETP, which he mentioned that this is a financial issue, which needs to be resolved.

Mr. Sarat Babu, Manager, Ahalada Pharma Pvt. Ltd. mentioned that earlier the roads in IP Mallapur were not good, but now they have improved a lot. He alsosaid that the construction of Storm water drainage by APIIC has reduced water logging in the area. He mentioned that they are regularly monitoring pollutants and submitting reports to APPCB and also mentioned that they have carried out plantation within their industry.

Participation in GTZ-APIIC Activities”
M/s Salicylates & Chemicals Pvt. Ltd has actively participated in Eco-profit programmes and other meetings conducted by GTZ.


M/s Salicylates & Chemicals Pvt. Ltd. has been part of eco-profit programme conducted by GTZ-STENNUM at Hyderabad. Mr. C. Jeevan Kumar and Mr. Ashok Rayapuri, QA Manager have given the feedback. They have appreciated the efforts taken up by GTZ in eco-profit. They informed that the suggestions provided by GTZ and STENNUM were positively taken and implemented, for example, by changing all the lights to CFL (energy saving light), they have saved about Rs 30,000 – 35,000 per month.

They also mentioned that the storm water drainage which was constructed by APIIC has reduced water logging in the area.

M/s Reiwance Engineering Pvt. Ltd. actively participated in Eco-club meetings and the training programmes conducted by NPC.



Mr. Raju said that there has been improvement in storm water drainage due to which there is reduced water logging in the area. He has mentioned that greenery in IP Mallapur and IP Nacharam has increased in the last 5 years. He added that the solid waste dumping has reduced a lot in the last 4-5 years. He said that earlier chemicals were dumped in the open, but now this has been reduced drastically. He said that In general, environmental conditions have improved in these industrial parks in the last 4-5 years.

He suggested that the road conditions needs to be improved in many places and that the power supply situation is also not good. He said that these aspects need also to be addressed.

Participation in GTZ-APIIC Activities:
M/s Murali Chemicals Distillation House has attended training programme on “Process Improvement” conducted by GTZ consultants (NPC) at IP Mallapur on 9th March, 2007.



Mr. K. Sirish Kumar mentioned that the storm water conditions have improved a lot and dumping of wastes has reduced in the last 3-4 years. He mentioned that there were now no complaints about dumping of waste nearby areas, which were earlier there. He also mentioned that the storm water drains and effluent lines have now come-up in the IP and that there is an increase in plantation in this area.

He said that GTZ has done good work and lot of training programs were conducted. He informed that after the training by GTZ consultants (NPC), they have installed fire extinguishers and improved a few safety measures in their company.

Participation in GTZ-APIIC Activities: M/s Bhavika Plastics Pvt Ltd. has attended the training programme on ‘Process Improvement’ at IP Mallapur on 9th March, 2007.



Mr. K. Nagamaleshwar Rao specified that they have implemented material planning and placement facility in their company. They have implemented 1S-2S and Kaizens like keeping daily usage materials nearer to work place, which has saved lot of time and efforts. They are able to now utilise manpower more efficiently, reduce the wastage of materials to about 0.5%, keeping covers to motors and increasing safety in operation, and training to workers in material and crane handling. The company is also certified by ISO 9000 standards for quality.

He also mentioned that they are satisfied with GTZ-APIIC work and he mentioned that the conditions due to storm water drains have improved. He also mentioned that awareness regarding CETP is low among stakeholders and hence they are not paying for the same.

Participation in GTZ-APIIC Activities:
As President of IALA NAcharam, he is involved in all aspects of APIIC-GTZ Cooperation at IP Nacharam.



Mr. Y. Ankineedu Prasad specified that they have taken deliberate efforts to safeguard environment, in manufacturing process and products are eco friendly. He mentioned that they are happy with APIIC-GTZ cooperation, but entrepreneurs are not cooperative. He stated that effluent pipeline work is getting delayed due to terrain conditions and CETP has to be functional. Once this work is completed, they are ready to initiate few more projects related to environment.

He mentioned that within their factory, they have improved ventilation conditions, and hygienic conditions. He also mentioned that storm water drains have reduced water logging.

Participation in GTZ-APIIC Activities: IALA Mallapur was one of the two chosen Industrial Parks for implementing the pilto proejct on ‘Development of Eco Industrial Parks in Andhra Pradesh”.

Mr. Shankar mentioned that GTZ-APIIC initiatives were very helpful, particularly the the initiation of environmental awareness in the zone. He said, “Because of GTZ, progress on environmental issues has started”. He suggested that GTZ should attend monthly interactive sessions in the industrial park.

Mr. Bhaskar Reddy stated that GTZ cooperation was very good and it should continue for longer term. He mentioned that there has been reduction in solid waste dumping in the open spaces.
Mr. Mohan Reddy said that the APIIC-GTZ cooperation has enabled implementation of storm water drains, effluent pipe line and plantation, which are very good initiatives, but financial issues related to CETP needs to be resolved. He mentioned that a number of training programmes were implemented by GTZ and such training programmes should continue. He said that awareness generation should be a continuous process.

 

Mr. Ram Prasad, Engineer-in-Chief, APIIC

Participation in GTZ-APIIC Activities: Mr. Ram Prasad participated in the visit-cum-exposure to Germany organised by GTZ during August 9 to 23, 2009.


Mr. Ram Prasad said that GTZ was doing well at APIIC and praised that now there is zeal to achieve something in these parks. He said that environmental awareness has increased a lot at APIIC.
He suggested that some of the officers maybe deputed from APPCB to work at APIIC. He also suggested that in the new programmes, APIIC could welcome German companies to take up projects and APIIC could use services of companies such as Bayer Technology Services in a big way.

He said that stern action needs to be taken on defaulting industries. He mentioned that in the pilot project phase there was poor response from the stakeholders. He recalled that there has been improvement in plantation and storm water drains at IP Nacharam and IP Mallapur that has been helpful for the industries. In his view, the industries could start with smaller initiatives such as investment in energy audits and addressing to environmental issues which will help industries as well as environment at larger scale. He mentioned that awareness levels have to be increased and this would go long way in meeting the objectives.

Participation in GTZ-APIIC Activities:
Mr. Ram Krishna participated in the visit-cum-exposure to Germany organised by GTZ during August 9 to 23,, 2009. He was also worked as GM of EMP Cell of APIIC for a brief period.


Mr. Ram Krishna said that GTZ has helped him understand various aspects of eco-industrial parks. In his view APIIC should have support of GTZ kind of organisation and the relationship should continue for a long term.

Mr Ram Krishna has emphasized the need more on training programmes. He suggested that the training programmes should focus more to APIIC employees and since eco-industrial concept is new, periodical refreshment courses should be conducted.
He mentioned that the EMP Cell at APIIC, which is a GTZ’s child, should play an active role in developing eco-indsutrial parks in Andhra Pradesh. He proposed that GTZ could suggest APIIC in recruiting experts in the field of environment for the APIIC Cell at HQ and also at Zonal Office level. In his view APIIC should mould in such way that environmental issues are addressed as far as possible.


Mr. Sanyasi Rao, General Manager (Finance), APIIC


Participation in GTZ-APIIC Activities:
Mr. Sanyasi Rao participated in the visit-cum-exposure to Germany organised by GTZ during August 9 to 23,, 2009.



Mr. Sanyasi Rao mentioned that GTZ has helped him in understanding various aspects of eco-industrial parks. He said the GTZ-APIIC cooperation is very good and should continue for longer term. He said that prior to GTZ cooperation, APIIC had played nearly no role on environmental issues and after GTZ cooperation it has moved from ‘zero’ to at least 30% and that now APIIC should take it further.

He also mentioned that GTZ had conducted a number of training/awareness programmes due to which stakeholders have benefited and there has been an increase in environmental awareness among stakeholders. He informed that, for instance, earlier environmental issues were not discussed in monthly Zonal Managers meetings at APIIC, but now subsequent to the start of GTZ cooperation, environmental issues are regularly discussed in the Zonal Managers meetings.

He suggested that GTZ-APIIIC cooperation should continue for longer term to see substantial improvements.
